21st Century Australia… the ‘Lucky Country’ has become the ultimate ‘consumer society’. We have changed, but how many of us realise why?
Post-modernism today provides a strange mix of public atheism with the worship of our new ‘gods’: personal health, wealth and human wisdom. Our national focus has become self-fulfilment and pleasure. Our heritage of Jesus and the Bible has been all but forgotten and is widely thought ‘irrelevant’.
Even Christians and churches can be seduced by our culture’s indifference to Christ. It’s easy to become cool toward Jesus - loving Him less, depending on Him little, becoming bold in our imagined strength and influence.
Yet, Jesus couldn’t have been clearer. He said “without Me, you can do nothing”. All things were made through Christ and for Christ. God promises no salvation or spiritual strength except though Him. Our churches need to be absorbed with Christ Himself – and not with this world – if we are to move from weakness to strength.
